One of my new children's books is called The Big Splash. The idea for it came from a baby shower invite which asked that everyone bring a book for the new baby. What a great idea! A book is both educational and fun. Reading is also something you can do with your child to create lifelong memories. I remember my dad reading to me as a child, although he usually fell asleep before me. His reading enabled me to memorize sight words, which enabled me to begin reading at an early age. Okay, so now I had the problem of what to bring. I knew the mother loved penguins, but I couldn't recall a penguin book that I liked. So I decided, what-the-heck, I'll write one and dedicate it to the family. It will be an extra special gift, so I spent the next week pouring my heart and soul into The Big Splash.
The Big Splash is about a penguin (Pen) who looks slightly different than the other penguins and gets laughed at. To make matters worse, he's scared of everything. One day during a class field trip, the class pauses as they reach a large hill no one wants to go down. By accident, Pen slips on the ice and goes down the hill. He makes a big splash, not just in the water but also with the other penguins. Soon Pen realizes he's not that different after all. He never was. His fear kept him from making friends and being accepted.
I made The Big Splash available to fellow penguin lovers on Bookemon. I'm also donating $1 of every sale to autism research. Part of the reason being, I write and illustrate because I love it. And partly, because I have a story to tell.
Happy Readings!!! Enjoy!
